DPWH builds slope protection in Iloilo using new system
According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), they adopted a new technology in the construction of the slope protection structure along Guimbal-Igbaras-Tubungan-Leon Road, Barangay Iswan, Tubungan, Iloilo.
The P67.66-million project involved the construction of an 800-square meter slope protection that will secure the 78-meter road section identified prone to landslide especially during heavy rains.
The Swiss-developed TECCO slope stabilization system is now being utilized at the site, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.
The secretary furthered that TECCO system has high-tensile steel wire safety nets and mesh are anchored with rock nails and spike plates nailed up to six meters deep for stabilizing any kind of slope.
The installed TECCO system will stabilize any type of terrain, help prevent erosion, and are also time-efficient with its knotted ends and lightweight feature that makes it easier to apply even on irregular slopes. The nearly invisible mesh also facilitates sustainable vegetation, Villar added.
He also said the system will be used in projects implemented by the district engineering office in Iloilo.
